Brenda Martin, for me, is the incident in Mexico that finally made me say
enough of this crap. Mexico is corrupt at all levels and unsafe for tourists
to visit. I am sick of hearing of all the horror stories that have happened
to tourists down there on vacation.  Ladies getting raped, innocent by-standers
shot in hotels, people mysteriously falling off balconies, people getting run
down outside bars or killed in their hotel rooms. Have you ever had to
pay off a Mexican cop, or been thrown in a police station jail? Well it
happens everyday.
What really gets to me is the way the Mexican government officials handle whatever happens
down there. First of all, in the case of Brenda Martin, everything I have read
and seen suggests she was only a cook. Prosecutors however, have the right to charge
anyone and  I won’t take this away from them but when you make a foreign national
sit in a dirty Mexican jail for over 2 years waiting to be charged with a
crime, something is fundamentally wrong. The arrogance and ignorance of these people
is just part of it,they just don’t seem to care or get it.
With every incident that happens down there it seems they pass the buck.
Taking absolutely no responsibility for what happens down there and refusing
to write a wrong. "No, he jumped off the balcony", "yes, he just wandered into
traffic", "oh; I think two Canadian ladies murdered their fellow tourists". "Oh
he provoked the assault". It’s all BULL and it's time for the Mexican government
to put on their big boy pants and admit "yes we have a problem let’s try to fix it".
 Really I don't know
that change will come if we wait for it. We have to demand it. I don’t
think our government has what it takes to stand up to them and ensure that we are
treated fairly down there. If our government had the backbone to stand up to them
this would not happen. "Enough of this crap, our citizen’s travel to your country.
Take care of them a little better while they are visiting you or we just won't
come". Also, let them know if something happens to one of us while visiting Mexico you
had better give us the straight goods. No more crap no more excuses .Dont try to tell us
that you don’t have a high crime and murder rate.We are not stupid and we demand to
know the truth.
Let us do it ourselves. This is the only way to right a wrong, tell the Mexicans that
we won’t go and visit their country unless change happens. Talk to them in a language
that they understand. The language of international commerce. If enough of us choose to
vacation somewhere else I can guarantee that change will happen. I ask you not
to visit Mexico until the government implements better policies. I ask you not to go
until Brenda Martin is free. I also ask you to sign this petition to show support for
this movement. Lets talk with our dollars, do something good and implement change.
